An Anniversary For Me and Another Giveaway For You!

My, oh my, how time does fly!

On this date—one year ago today—I joined the rank and file of the blogosphere.

I'd been an avid blog reader for a while—before taking the plunge.

For a long time, I told myself I didn't have time to do a blog justice.

And here I am—a year later—still feeling as though I haven't done my blog justice.

But at least I started and, hopefully, in this new year, will be able to accomplish more of the things I had desired to do during the first year.

Please know that I sincerely appreciate each and every person who has visited, commented, followed along, and become my blogging friend.

And to show my gratitude, I'm having an anniversary giveaway!

Worth the Wait

As you know, the Yankee and I have been traveling—for weeks now—doing antiques and collectibles shows.

Between shows, we are scouting out new items to sell—or at least, the components to create new items—from some of our favorite spots.

You know the places I'm referring to.

I've shared them before: Cline's, Lexington Flea Market, and even the locations where we've done shows—like The Big Classic, as well as, several others I will be posting about later.

After each show, we have to pack up any items we've not sold, load them on the truck, and take them back to be stored until the next show.

But, the venue of a show dictates which items we are able to take with us each time.

And, not every category of item can be sold at every show.

So, after each show, we attempt to repack any leftover items with the next show in mind.

When I decided to do this giveaway—to celebrate my birthday with you—I began to set aside specific items from our various excursions to include in the giveaway.

After packing up the goods from a handful of shows—some of which involved a harried, hurried packing to beat the rain—many of the giveaway items got mixed up with the show items.

I promise; It was meant to tease, not torture!

An Earth Day Birthday Giveaway!!!

I'm sure most of you are aware that today is Earth Day. But, did you know that it happens to be the fortieth anniversary of that environmental movement?

That's right! Forty years ago, today, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson proposed a nationwide protest to heighten awareness of and appreciation for the earth's environment. Over the past forty years that movement has gained such momentum that it is now observed in 184 countries around the world.

But, April 22nd also happens to be a day of celebration for another reason...

It's my birthday! ; )

And...I have an awesome idea for how you can help me celebrate. Rather than you give me presents, I'll give presents to you! Sound exciting?

This will be another very special giveaway at the Brambleberry Cottage.

I wasn't sure I could come up with the ideas for forty different presents–to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of Earth Day. And, if I couldn't think of forty, I certainly couldn't think of 53–my age, as of today.

So...will 22 do?

But, instead of twenty-two different winners, there will be ONE VERY HAPPY WINNER!

I'm involved in yet another show–which I left for today–so you'll have to wait patiently to see the glorious goods for this giveaway.

Fourteen Days of Love - Day 14 - Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing

Happy Valentine's Day!

There may be one or a hundred and one loves in your life. But this day, Valentine's Day, should be dedicated to that special someone who can make your heart sing!

I'm a person who loves easily. By that I mean, caring for and about people seems to come naturally for me.

And those I love, I love deeply.

I am blessed with two wonderful parents, four very special sisters and their husbands and children, two terrific children of my own, and one super, incredibly cute granddaughter…all of whom I love dearly!

But the person who can make my heart sing with the greatest passion is my Yankee sweetheart!

Yet, you've most likely realized, from my previous posts, that he and I are two distinctly different personalities, with unique and ~~sometimes~~ ofttimes opposing takes on life.

In many ways, we are the clichéd "odd couple."

No…not that odd couple.

We actually more closely resemble the couples portrayed in these magazine ads.

Over the years, the Yankee has summed up who we are as a couple with some very familiar metaphors, and I'll just let you guess whose who in these images. ; )

OK, so you get the idea.

In essence, what I'm attempting to communicate to you is how different the Yankee and I are. Yet, even with all our differences, it works.

Or should I say we work at it?!

Any relationship takes effort, but a relationship such as ours takes even greater effort...

and commitment.

That's what we have...a lifetime commitment.

Though there are at times points of disagreement between us, there is one thing the Yankee and I totally agree upon.

There is no one either of us would want to share our lives with more than one another!

Our love truly is a many-splendored thing!

Fourteen Days of Love - Day 13 - Plan Your Escape

There are times when we all dream of escaping to some sweet retreat. Perhaps that romantic getaway involves traveling to a far away land. Then again, your escape could be but a stone's throw away.

When I was much younger, I dreamed of travel to distant lands. Thoughts of Greece, Italy, or France easily conjured up romantic images in my mind.

As I got older, I began to appreciate the simple splendor closer to home.

From the time I was a very small child, my parents, siblings, and I would vacation during the fall in the mountains of North Carolina–my home state. While I enjoyed the time spent with loved ones, I didn't fully appreciate the beauty of my surroundings.

But those early days of family memory making obviously left their imprint, because, eventually, fall became my favorite time of year and the mountains my favorite getaway spot.

It just so happens that those two points are where the Yankee and I connect completely. So much so, that the mountains are where we honeymooned and continue to venture to as often as time permits.

We have spent a number of wonderful, fun-filled weeks over the years vacationing at the Leatherwood Mountains Resort. Each visit there has provided the opportunity to stay in a unique, secluded cabin high atop a mountain.

This particular quaint cabin, called Horseshoe Knoll, was one of our favorites.

While the décor was a bit rustic for my everyday tastes, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable place to spend some time.

But the real treat was this hot tub–situated on one of the decks–that offered a panoramic view of the mountains…while you soaked!

We've also had the pleasure of staying in various Bed and Breakfasts in the mountains of North Carolina. So far, The Red Rocker Inn has been the one we've preferred most.
