Time Travel Thursday #16 - Just "Milling" Around

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT ALL THE DETAILS FOR THE LINKY PARTY HERE!

Welcome to the sixteenth Time Travel Thursday linky party at the Brambleberry Cottage.

Are you ready for our next trip back in time and into the future?

Good!  Here we go.

1910

I grew up in a textile town in the South.

1910

As a matter of fact, the textile millsthat dotted the landscape throughout the Piedmont regionmade North Carolina famous for a season.

1922

Gibson Mills, depicted in the three vintage postcards above, was in a neighboring town to the one I lived in during my childhood.

And while the town where I grew up was actually created around a mill–that was the largest manufacturer of towels in the world, for a timethat mill is not the one I've chosen to focus on.

The mill above, now known as The Depot at Gibson Mills, no longer produces textiles, but it's very much a hub of activity again today.

It has been given new life through the businesses and shops that it now houses.

Boasting over 85,000 square feet and 460 dealer booths, its antique mall and design center has become one of my absolute favorite shopping destinations.

This fun boothloaded with fantastic primitives and just plain old cool junkis the space of a friend of mine.

You could spend hours, right here in Tammy's "Refunked Junk" booth!

If you prefer country antiques and collectibles, you'll find them at The Depot, as well.

One of the things that makes this place such a delightful shopping experience is the great care the vendors take to make their spaces so inviting.

Have you seen anything yet you would love to have?  ; )

If your style leans more toward newer home decor, you won't be disappointed with the wonderful selection you find here.

Truly, there is something to satisfy everyone's taste at this incredible shopping venue.

But come prepared to spend the entire day, if you really want to see everything!

Sharing all this wonderful vintage goodness @ Suzanne's for Vintage Thingie Thursday.

I make the 1 hour trek to Concord to visit the Depot at Gibson Mills! I am in SC just across the border! Oh, it is my favorite...prices are fair and better than the Metrolina Expo which I also like to visit...I think I recognize your friends booth! My friend Mary and I are going this Saturday to the garage sale! So cool to see this on your site! Thanks! Christie at Three Pixie Lane

  10. I joined your party today...can't wait to check the participants out. Such inspiration is so delightful. I loved your post and I would love to visit The Depot but I'm not sure...Is it at Gibson Mills, NC? Even though I live in California our son lives in Pennsylvania so we travel to the East Coast and I would love to make this a destination sometime. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Ok Liz...I thought you were a pal :( Here I sit at work and you have to show that huge antique mall!!!! You do have a mean streak don't you. You trigger us antiqueaholics obsession button. Now I have to try to do flower arrangements constantly going back and forth to get a closer look at those pics....
shaking hands...dry mouthed....drops of perspiration forming on the forehead....LOL girl you are no fair!!! We have 2 antique malls like yours...Ohio Valley was a department store just 5 miles away form my house! and the other is the old Shoe Factory in Lebanon. The one closest is open 9a-9p..looks like I'll have to stop by tonight to get my fix..hehe.
Looks like you have a good turnout for todays Travel. I can't wait to visit everyones posts. Hope you get to stop over for some Halloween fun and a little gift.

  17. I live about an hour and a half down I-85 from Gastonia, NC, known for the fabulous Mary Jo's Cloth Store. I'm afraid that by the time I shop there and trek on up I-85 to Concord I'll be exhausted, requiring a night's stay before I'd be ready for a day of shopping at The Depot! What a wonderful idea for a mini-vacation!
